Bespoke Concrete Artistry
from London to UK Interiors
I’m Gourtan, the founder and maker at Gumi Works. Moving away from the anonymity of mass production, I established Gumi Works as a dedicated Design-and-Make Studio in London. Here, the person who designs the 3D model is the same person who hand-pours the concrete, ensuring absolute fidelity between the initial vision and the final object. My aim is to craft timeless design objects imbued with architectural character, utilizing the raw, honest power of concrete to fashion distinctive pieces for individual interiors.
A Foundation in Mechanics, Structure, and Motion
My apprenticeship began long before I touched a concrete mixer. Growing up in a citrus farming family in Cyprus, my father’s tractors were my first classroom in mechanical problem-solving. This early curiosity led me to study mechanics, followed by a career as a site engineer in the high-stakes London construction landscape.
When combined with a degree and a decade of experience in visual arts and 3D design, these disciplines provide Gumi Works with its unique technical foundation. This synergy allows me to push the boundaries of Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC), creating challenging monolithic forms that maintain absolute structural integrity through thoughtful, engineered design.
The Concrete Ethos: Modern Heirlooms
At Gumi Works, we envision design that is captivating, thought-provoking, and permanent. Our 2025 collection, recently showcased at the Surface Design Show London, pushes the boundaries of tactile surfaces. From 3D textured fluted concrete to artisanal brass inlays and concrete veining, we treat concrete as a fine-art medium.
By blending earthy colour trends with natural marble and granite aggregates, we create bespoke terrazzo finishes that offer a refined, high-end alternative for luxury interiors. I hope you find as much joy in our work as I find in the intricate process of sculpting them.
